The world is fascinated by the recent jewel robbery at the Louvre, and so are the Curators of Crime, mystery authors Connie BerryLane StoneNina Wachsman, and M. A. Monnin. In this presentation, the Curators of Crime will examine the public’s fascination with the recent burglary of Napoleonic jewels at the Louvre and discuss how as authors they have used the same elements in their books. They cover the crime itself, the police investigation and their procedures for nailing the thieves, the psychology and motives that prompt such a bold theft, and how the intrinsic and historical value of the jewels make them targets and add to the public’s fear of their loss.

Curators of Crime:

Connie Berry is an award-winning author of traditional mysteries, discovered her love for storytelling when her dream of becoming an archaeologist ended. Realizing the field involved more than unearthing lost tombs, she turned her passion for history and antiques into creating the enchanting Kate Hamilton Mystery series. Set in the United Kingdom, this captivating series follows an American antiques dealer with a knack for solving crimes and her partner-in-detection, Detective Inspector Tom Mallory. Drawing from her unique upbringing, Connie mirrors her own experiences in the series.

Lane Stone's stories take readers to captivating settings like Manhattan, grand country houses in England, and the Vatican Museums. She invites you to join her characters in the fight against international art crime. Her engaging thrillers reflect her vibrant life and experiences. She’s a proud baby boomer and dog mom, living in Alexandria, Virginia (to be near DC) and Lewes, Delaware (to be near an ocean) with her husband, Larry Korb, and their Standard Schnauzers, Cordy and Emma. She holds a post-graduate certificate in Antiquities Theft and Art Crime.

Nina Wachsman, is a descendant of a dynasty of rabbis, one of whom was a contemporary of  Rabbi Leon de Modena, I have many emotional ties to Venice.  I am a frequent visitor to the Ghetto, which has changed little in nearly five hundred years. My mother's sabbath candlesticks were once torch-holders, in all likelihood, pawned by a nobleman in the Ghetto centuries ago. This story has been in my head for years, and got its start when I read the autobiography of Rabbi Leon de Modena.  His worries and fears for his children --his daughter Diana, and his sons -- an alchemist, a pirate and an adventurer-- are not very different from those of a parent today.

 M. A. Monnin  is an Air Force veteran and avocational archaeologist, M. A. enjoys traveling and archaeology in addition to making cocktails. She and her husband live in Kansas City, Missouri with their two Siberian huskies. She can be reached on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
