You are standing at the operational center of a vast system of derricks, wires and rail lines that reached out and connected all the areas of the quarry such as the red and green quarries, the steam engines and boilers, and the lathe house.
A derrick is a large apparatus for lifting and moving heavy objects, such as the granite blocks in Redstone Quarry. The derrick consists of a long beam pivoted at the base of a vertical, stationary mast and moved by ropes running on pulleys.
