In “A Geologist Looks at Art” Dean Malouta will touch on a subset of those technologies that are based on materials from the earth. We’ll take a look at the origins of pigments, stones for sculpture, ceramics, metals, and jewels. Dean is now in the process of researching a book on the myriad technological advances which have been an integral part of the creation of art over the ages.

Dean Malouta is Docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City where he gives tours to visitors highlighting works of art from the museum’s vast collection covering over 5000 years of art and history.
Prior to his role as a Volunteer Guide, he was an Exploration Geologist and Head of Technology for the entire Western Hemisphere for Shell Oil Company.
