Artist Thom Perkins will present on his art and talk about his sculptures which are currently on exhibit at the Library. He will discuss the imagery in his artwork including drawing and photography.
Perkins studied sculpture, drawing and photography at the University of Connecticut graduating with a BFA in 1971.
Perkins’ sculptures reflect his reference to shapes, with an emphasis on drawn edges and the space between objects. Early figurative pieces evolve into later conceptual constructivist shapes using intuitive imagery which seem to be part of the human genetic code without relying on duplicating nature. Many of his sculptures relate to paleontological museum fossil reconstruction displays providing spatial orientation to disconnected elements allowing the viewer to ponder the missing pieces.
Most of the material used is from recycled materials, repurposed for these sculptures.
All invited to this free and interesting presentation.
