Two authors join together for this event - A debut memoir by Sandell Morse, The Spiral Shell, A FrenchVillage Reveals Its Secrets of Jewish Resistance in World War II and L.Annette Binder's debut novel, The Vanishing Sky.

The Spiral Shell is a double journey, one inward as I come to terms with my own Jewish identity, and one outward as I uncover long silenced stories of resistance and collaboration during WW2 in Auvillar, a village in south west France and find those stories reverberating today.

The Vanishing Sky tells the story of a German family in a village in Germany at the endof the Second World War. The story is inspired by events in the author’s family history.

Sandell and Anette's work may seem an unlikely pairing for an event, a memoirist writing from a Jewish point of view, a novelist writing from a German point of view, but they share remarkably similar sensibilities about war and the effects of war on ordinary people. Another difference is their age. Sandell is the age of Annette's mother. They are both New Hampshire residents.
