From the founding of the Conway Public Library to the present day, community members have played an essential role in supporting the Library and enriching the community it serves. In 1895, the Conway Woman’s Club and other interested citizens established the Conway Village Library Association, which provided library services to the community until the dedication of the present library building on June 13, 1901. The Association then transferred its books, periodicals, and property to the Conway Public Library, helping establish the foundation for the Library we know today.

More than a century later, that spirit of community involvement continues through the Friends of the Conway Public Library. Established as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 1998 to help plan and finance the Library’s 100th Anniversary Celebration and support the Library addition, the Friends have carried forward this longstanding tradition of service and generosity.

Today, the Friends remain dedicated to supporting and strengthening the Library through fundraising, volunteering, advocacy, and financial assistance. Working in partnership with library staff and the Board of Trustees, the Friends help make possible additional programs, resources, and opportunities for people of all ages.

All proceeds from Friends' fundraising activities support the Conway Public Library.

 

What Do the Friends Do?

The Friends provide financial and volunteer support for programs, projects, and resources that enrich the Library and the community.

Support Books, Materials & Library Projects

The Friends raise funds to help purchase books, materials, equipment, and other resources that benefit Library users.

Support Programs & Events

Friends funding helps make special programs and events possible, including concerts, author visits, lectures, educational programs, and other community activities.

Support Children & Families

The Friends support children's programming and initiatives such as the Summer Reading Program, helping encourage a lifelong love of reading, learning, and the Library.

Bookselling & Fundraising

The Friends organize multiple book sales throughout the year and oversee the year-round Book Nook. They also sell books of local interest, calendars, Library merchandise, and other items, as well as periodically holding raffles and special fundraising events.

Volunteer & Community Support

Friends members donate their time and talents to help with book sales, fundraising, library events, and other activities that benefit the Library.

Advocate for the Library

The Friends help promote the value of public library services and advocate for the Conway Public Library and the resources it provides to our community.

Support our Library Park

The Friends of the Conway Public Library are proud to support efforts to enhance the outdoor space surrounding the Library and create a welcoming Library Park for the entire community. The Friends are contributing fundraising, volunteer support, and community advocacy to help make the vision for a better utilized Library Park a reality.

A great library is more than a building; it is a place for the community to come together. The Park Project will help transform the Library’s outdoor space into a place where people can gather, relax, read, learn, and connect. By supporting this project, the Friends are helping expand the Library beyond its walls and create additional opportunities for community programs, events, and everyday enjoyment. Together, we can create an outdoor space that complements the Library and serves the Conway community for years to come.

Become a Friend

Interested in getting involved? Friends members and prospective members are welcome to attend a Board meeting and learn more about the organization.

The Friends Board of Directors meets monthly at the Conway Public Library.
